Solution

Comparison of thunder and lightning

  1. Thunder and lightning are formed simultaneously.
  2. We know that the speed of light in air is 3×108m/s.
  3. The speed of sound in air is 330m/s.
  4. Since, the speed of light is much greater than the speed of sound, so during lightning, the flash is observed way before the thunder is heard.
