Question

For a step-up transformer, the number of turns in the secondary coil is ________________than that in the primary coil.

Solution

Step up transformer:

  1. It is a device used to increase the output voltage.
  2. So there are more secondary windings than primary windings.
  3. We know,

VSVP=NSNP=IPIS

where VP,NPand IP are the voltage, number of turns, and current in primary coil and VS,NSand IS are the voltage, number of turns, and current in secondary coil respectively

In case of a step up transformer, VS>VPNS>NP

Therefore, the number of turns in the secondary coil is more than in the primary coil.
