Question

For the equilibrium, 2NOCl(g)Nitrosylchloride2NO(g)Nitricoxide+Cl2(g)chlorine. The value of the equilibrium constant Kc is 3.75×10-4 at 1069K. Calculate Kp for the reaction at this temperature.

Solution

Step 1 Given data:

Reaction: 2NOCl(g)2NO(g)+Cl2(g)

Value of Kc=3.75×10-4

Temperature =1069K

Step 2 Applying formula:

Kp=Kc×RTng

ng=moleofproduct-moleofreactant

ng=3-2=1

Kp=3.75×10-4(8.314×1069)1Kp=3.33

Therefore, Kp for the reaction at 1069K is3.33.
