Give examples for non-metals and metalloids.

Open in App
Solution

Non-metals:-

  1. Non-metals are elements that either accept electrons or gain electrons, thus forming a negative ion.
  2. These negative ions are called anions.
  3. The non-metals have more than 3 electrons in their valence shell.
  4. Some examples are: Chlorine(Cl), Oxygen(O), Nitrogen(N)

Metalloids:-

  1. Metalloids are often called compounds that have mixed properties of metal and non-metal.
  2. These are basically the elements that are along a zigzag line that separates metal and non-metals.
  3. Some of the elements are Boron (B), Silicon (Si), Germanium (Ge), and Antimony (Sb).

4. The elements marked in yellow colour are the metalloids.

Therefore, examples of non-metals: Chlorine, Nitrogen, Oxygen, and Metalloids are: Boron, Silicon(Si), Antimony(Sb)
