Classification based on sepals (calyx):

Gamosepalous:

  1. Plants with many fused sepals are known as Gamosepalous.
  2. All the sepals of a plant collectively enclosing a flower are known as calyx.
  3. Eg, Hibiscus, Periwinkle, etc.

Polysepalous:

  1. Polysepalous plants are also categorized based on sepals.
  2. They have many free sepals.
  3. Eg, Rose, Southern magnolia, etc.

Classification based on petals (corolla):

Gamopetalous:

  1. Plants comprising all the petals in a unification are gamopetalous.
  2. The corolla of a plant is the collection of all petals in the plant.
  3. Eg, Elderberry, Bindweed, etc.

Polypetalous:

  1. These plants are also categorized based on the corolla.
  2. The flowers in these plants have separate free petals.
  3. Eg, Camellia, Rose, etc.
