Give reason why acquired characters are not inherited.

Traits acquired during life time of an individual influence only the non-reproductive organs. There is no influence on the DNA of germ cell. Only the germ cells transfer traits from parents to offspring. Non-reproductive organs have no such role. Traits acquired by them die with the death of the individual.
