  • In October 1858, Bahadur Shah Zafar was imprisoned in a jail located in Rangoon, currently located in Myanmar.
  • Lord Dalhousie, who was the Governor-General in 1849, announced that after the death of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the family would be given an alternate place to live in Delhi, and they would be moved out of Red Fort.
  • Lord Canning who was Governor-General in 1856 decided that the last Mughal king would be Bahadur Shah Zafar. None of his kings would be acknowledged as Kings, they would be simply known as Princes.
  • Bahadur Shah Zafar had joined the rebellion of the Sepoys.
