Open in App
Solution

Biofertilizers:

  1. The microorganisms that help in enriching the nutrient content of the soil are called biofertilizers.
  2. Biofertilizers are the organisms that make the nutrients available to the plants by increasing the availability of nutrients in the soil.
  3. Examples of biofertilizers: Rhizobium, Azospirillium.

Working of biofertilizers:

  1. Biofertilizers enrich the soil with nutrients by fixing the atmospheric nitrogen, they solubilize the phosphorous thus, making it available to the plants.
  2. They stimulate the growth and development of plants by enhancing the secretion of growth-promoting substances.
  3. These also increase the nutrient availability to the plants, especially the roots by manifolds.
  4. In this way they help to increase the fertility of the soil.
