How does division work?

Solution

Explain the process of Division

Division is repeated subtraction. It is denoted by ÷. The number which we need to divide is called the dividend and the number with which we divide the dividend is called the divisor. To divide the dividend, we successively subtract the multiples of the divisor from it to get the remainder 0. The result of the division is called the Quotient.

Hence, Dividend = Divisor × Quotient + Remainder

If the remainder is equal to zero then the dividend is completely divisible by the divisor.

For example, the division of 75 by 3 is shown as:

Hence, the division of 75 by 3 gives 25 as quotient and 0 as remainder.
