Question

How does transpiration helps in upward transport of substance?

Open in App
Solution

Transpiration:

  1. The process by which the plant body releases water in the form of vapours through its aerial portions is known as transpiration.
  2. Transpiration provides a suction force that is required for the absorption of water, which is required for photosynthesis. As molecules line up for absorption in the xylem tissues, the first molecule is lost by the plant owing to transpiration.
  3. This causes a negative pressure in the leaf, which aids in the movement of water up the xylem from the roots.
