Question

How many secondary carbon atoms are there in(CH3)2CHCH2CH(CH3)2?

Open in App
Solution

Secondary carbon:

  1. A carbon atom connected to two other carbon atoms is known as secondary carbon.
  2. As a result, all hydrocarbons containing at least three carbon atoms contain secondary carbon atoms.
  3. In (CH3)2CHCH2CH(CH3)2 we can see that only the middle carbon is attached to the other two carbon atoms rest of all are primary and tertiary carbons.

Therefore, there are only two secondary carbon atoms in (CH3)2CHCH2CH(CH3)2.
