Conversion of Ethanal to Propna-2-ol:-

Step 1: Formation of Adduct

When Ethanal is treated with Grignard reagent that has a methyl group and Magnesium bromide, it produces an adduct(intermediate state):

Step 2: Formaion of Propan-2-ol

The Adduct is then followed by hydrolysis to form Porpan-2-ol:

This conversion of Ethanal to Propan-2-ol is a 2 step reaction.

Therefore, Ethanal is teated with Methyl magnesium bromide followed by hydrolysis to produce Propan-2-ol
