Question

How to turn a fraction into a decimal?

Open in App
Solution

Convert a fraction into a decimal.

  1. Find a number you can multiply by the denominator of the fraction to make it 10, or 100, or 1000, or any 1 followed by 0s.
  2. Multiply both numerator and denominator by that number.
  3. Write down the numerator, putting the decimal point in the correct place (one space from the right-hand side for every zero in the denominator.)

For example: convert 35 to decimal.

We know, 5×20=100

Multiply the numerator and denominator by 20.

3×205×20=60100

Write down the numerator, putting the decimal point in the correct place.

60100=0.6

Hence, using the above steps we can turn a fraction into a decimal.
