Question

How will you separate a mixture of common salt and sand?

Open in App
Solution

Separation of a salt and sand mixture:

  • The mixture of salt and sand can be separated by filtration followed by an evaporation process.
  • Filtration can separate sand from a combination of sand and salt solution (salt dissolved in water).
  • Sand stays on the filter paper as a residue after filtering.
  • By boiling the filtrate, common salt may now be produced.
  • Boiling causes all of the water to evaporate, leaving just salt remaining. This is known as evaporation.

Thus, this is how salt and sand are separated.
