Solve for the required value
Given that, $3 y = y + 2$
Now taking the $y$ terms on L.H.S
$\Rightarrow 3 y - y = 2 \Rightarrow 2 y = 2 \Rightarrow y = 1$
Multiply with $2$ on both sides
$\Rightarrow 2 y = 2 \times 1 = 2$
Hence the value of $2 y$ is $2$
