Solution

The correct option is C

Compress

Current through a spring

  1. When a current is passing through the coils of the spring, it is moving in the same direction through all the turns in the spring. The current moving in the same direction in adjacent coils causes a force of attraction between the coils.
  2. Opposite poles are formed on the wires and this leads to the attraction between the coils.
  3. When attractive force is generated between adjacent coils, they move closer to each other and will then compress.
  4. Fleming's left-hand rule can be used to determine the direction of the force between the coils.
  5. If the forefinger represents the direction of the field and the second finger represents that of the current, then the thumb gives the direction of the force.

Hence, option C is the correct option.
