Question

If LCM of p and 12 is 24 and the HCF of p and 12 is 4, then the value of p is?

Open in App
Solution

Calculate the value of p:

We know that the relation between the HCF and the LCM of any two numbers a and b is given by,

HCF(a,b)×LCM(a,b)=a×b

It is given that, LCM(p,12)=24

And, HCF(p,12)=4

So, the numbers are p and 12.

Now, using the above formula,

HCF(p,12)×LCM(p,12)=p×12

4×24=p×12 HCF(p,12)=4,LCM(p,12)=24

4×2412=p

4×21=p

8=p

Or, p=8

Hence, the required value of p is 8.
