Question

If X and Y are two sets such that n(X)=17,n(Y)=23 and n(XY)=38, find n(XY).

Open in App
Solution

Find the value of intersection

Given,

n(X)=17

. n(Y)=23

n(XY)=38

We know that, by Venn Diagram for 2 sets,

n(XY)=n(X)+n(Y)n(XY)

38=17+23n(XY)

38=40n(XY)

n(XY)=40-38

n(XY)=2

Hence, n(XY) is 2.
