Solution

Observation of holding a piece of iron wire with a pair of tongs inside a candle flame:

  • Most atoms in as solid metals don’t have access to oxygen atoms as they have a high ignition temperature with good thermal conductivity, so they don’t burn very well in everyday situations.
  • If we hold a piece of iron wire inside the flame candle of a bunsen burner, it will become red-hot.
  • It will glow and its color becomes red, but there will be no flame produced by the iron.

Thus, if we hold a piece of iron wire with a pair of tongs inside the flame of a candle or a bunsen burner, it will turn red without forming flames.
