Solution

Step 1: Charge

  1. Charged particles are the bodies that attract or repel each other.
  2. Like charges always repel each other and unlike charges always attract each other.
  3. Elements are made up of protons, electrons, and neutrons.
  4. Protons have a positive charge, electrons have a negative charge and neutrons are neutral.
  5. The charge of an electron is numerically equal to that of a proton.
  6. In an ordinary piece of matter consisting of atoms, there is an equal number of protons and electrons.
  7. As a result matter as a whole is electrically neutral.

Step 2: Protons parallel to each other

  1. We know that moving charges are also responsible for generating a magnetic field.
  2. But in the case of two streams of protons moving parallel to each other, the electrostatic force dominates over this magnetic field.
  3. Since protons are both positive charges they will repel each other.

Hence, if two streams of protons move parallel to each other in the same direction, then they repel.
