Question

In a hospital, used water is collected in a cylindrical tank of diameter 2m and height 5m. After recycling, this water is used to irrigate a park of hospital whose length is 25m and breadth is 20m. If tank is filled completely then what will be the height of standing water used for irrigating the park.

Solution

Step 1: Find the volume of the tank.

Given: Diameter of cylindrical tank, d=2m

Height of cylindrical tank, h=5m

So radius, r=22r=d2

=1m

We know that the volume of the cylinder=πr2h, where r is the radius and his the height of the cylinder

So, the volume of the cylindrical tank=πr2h

=π×12×5r=1mandh=5m=5πm3

Step 2: Find the required height.

Given : Length of park, l=25m

Breadth of park, b=20m

We know that the volume of the cuboid =lbh, where l is the length, b is the breadth and his the height of the cuboid.

So, the volume of water park =lbh, here his the height of standing water.

=25×20×hm3

As, Water from the tank is used to irrigate the park.

So, Volume of water in the park = the volume of the cylindrical tank

25×20×h=5π500h=5πh=5π500h=5(3.14)500π=3.14h=3.14100h=0.0314m

Hence, the height of standing water used for irrigating the park is 0.0314m.
