In a reaction A+B2AB2, identify the limiting reagent, if any, in the following reaction mixture.

300 atoms of A+ 200 molecules of B2

Solution

Limiting Reagent:-

  1. The limiting reagent is the reactant that gets consumed when the chemical reaction gets completed.
  2. Therefore, the amount of reactant limits the amount of product formed.
  3. Here, 200 molecules of B2 will react with 200 atoms of A.
  4. So, 100 atoms of A will remain unreacted.

Therefore, here B2 will be the limiting reagent.
