Let the Wheatstone bridge consist of four resistances R1,R2,R3 and R4 as shown in the given figure.

It also consists of a galvanometer or resistance Rg.

From the question we have,

R1=R2=R3=R4=Rg=R

Step 2: Calculate the equivalent resistance

Since R1 and R2 are in series,

RCAD=R1+R2

Since R3 and R4 are in series,

RCBD=R3+R4

Assume the battery resistance ri=0 we can write,

RCAD and RCBD are in parallel.

1Req=1R1+R2+1R3+R4

Req=R1+R2R3+R4R1+R2+R3+R4

=R+RR+RR+R+R+R

=4R24R

=R
