Question

In an experiment 4.5kg of a fuel was completely burnt. The heat produced was measured to be 1,80,000kJ. Calculate the calorific value of the fuel(in kJ/kg)?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data :-

Heat produced by 4.5kg of fuel=180000kJ

Step 2: Calculating the calorific value of the fuel(in kJ/kg) :-

The amount of heat generated by the full combustion of 1kg of fuel is known as the calorific value of the fuel.

Heat produced by 4.5kg of fuel=180000kJ

Heat produced by 1kg of fuel=1800004.5=40000kJ/kg

So, the calorific value of the given fuel is 40,000kJ/kg.
