Question

In brief state what happens when Golgi apparatus is removed from the cell?

Open in App
Solution

Golgi apparatus:

  1. Golgi apparatus is the organelle that processes proteins and also packages molecules.
  2. It also helps in the transportation of proteins and different molecules.
  3. It is also involved in lipid synthesis, e.g., glycolipid synthesis for membrane molecules, etc.

The following things would happen upon removal of the Golgi apparatus:

  1. The cell would be unable to perform various secretion processes.
  2. The transportation process of proteins and other molecules will be stopped.
  3. The dead molecules won't be removed.
  4. The broken membranes would not be repaired and new membranes would not be able to be synthesized, e.g., lysosomes, plasma membrane, etc.
  5. Acrosome formation in the sperm cell will be inhibited hence rendering it unable to enter the egg.
