Solution

Photosynthesis:

  1. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants produce food using sunlight, water, carbon dioxide, phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP), etc., with help of photosynthetic pigments such as chlorophyll.
  2. Photosynthesis occurs inside specialized organelles known as chloroplasts which contain photosynthetic pigments.
  3. Chlorophyll helps to trap the sun's energy.
  4. The leaves, petiole, epidermis, and lamina also help to absorb sunlight.
  5. Photosynthesis is essential for the survival of organisms as it produces food for energy.
  6. Photosynthesis also replenishes the air with oxygen as a by-product.

Rate of photosynthesis under the following situations:

A. Cloudy days:

  1. On a cloudy day the rate of photosynthesis will reduce to less availability of sunlight.
  2. As sunlight is the main source of energy in the photosynthetic process.

B. No rainfall in the area:

  1. Rainfall does not affect the process of photosynthesis.
  2. As plants can derive the required water from the ground, hence no rainfall won't create a hindrance in the photosynthetic process.

C. Good manuring in the area:

  1. Manuring increases the nutritional makeup of the soil.
  2. Photosynthesis does not require any special organic and inorganic nutrients other than sunlight, water, carbon dioxide, etc.
  3. Hence, photosynthesis is unaffected by manuring.

D. Stomata get blocked due to dust:

  1. Plants require carbon dioxide for the photosynthesis process.
  2. Hence, blockage of photosynthesis will reduce the supply of CO2.
  3. Thus, blockage of stomata will reduce the rate of photosynthesis.
