In the figure, a square of diagonal $ 8 \mathrm{cm}$ is inscribed in a circle. Find the area of the shaded region.

Step 1: Find the area of the square.

Given: Diagonal of the square =8cm

Diameter of the circle =Diagonal of the square =8cm

Let the side of the square be a.

We know that side of the square and diagonal follow the relation given below:

a=d22 (a is the side of the square and d is diagonal)

Therefore,

a=822=642=32cm

Area of square

=a2=322=32cm2

Step 2: Find the area of the circle.

Area of circle=πr2

=227×(4)2radius=diameter2=50.28cm2

Step 3: Find the area of the shaded region.

Area of the shaded region = Area of the circle- Area of the square

=50.28-32=18.28cm2

Hence the area of the shaded region is 18.28cm2.
