Question

Is communication in outer space possible?

Open in App
Solution

Sound waves

  1. Sound waves travel across the air. However, sound cannot travel across space because there is no air.
  2. Since the molecules of solids, liquids, and gases convey sound waves from one location to another, sound waves require a material medium for their propagation, such as a solid, liquid, or gas.
  3. As a result, the astronauts will require some communication technology.
  4. The astronauts can converse using these technologies, which transform the sound from various forms. The waves that can travel through space are the basis for these gadgets.

Radio comunication technique

  1. Wireless communication systems communicate from one point to another using radio waves, electromagnetic waves, and infrared waves, whereas wire communication systems communicate from one point to another using wire, optical fiber, and the phenomena of total internal reflection.
  2. Devices for communication are fitted in astronauts' space suits. Radio microphones and speakers are among the gadgets. The sound of the person speaking is converted to radio waves by these microphones.
  3. The speaker then turns the radio wave to sound so the other astronaut may hear it. This is how astronauts on the moon or in space interact with one another.
  4. The same technologies are used by astronauts to communicate with people on the ground. Because of the air in the spacesuit, these noises are transformed into radio waves.
  5. As a result, astronauts on the moon use radio waves to communicate with one another.

Hence, It is possible to communicate in outer space with the help of radio waves.
