Digestive system:

1. The human digestive system is also referred to as the gut or alimentary canal.
2. The alimentary canal in humans begins from the mouth or the buccal cavity also called the oral cavity and extends up to the anus.
3. The human digestive system has a collection of various organs which include, the mouth, food pipe, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.
4. It also includes several glands, salivary glands, liver, pancreas, and gall bladder.

Various parts of the digestive system:

1. Buccal cavity: It is also called the mouth or oral cavity which includes the tongue and teeth. The process of digestion begins in the mouth.
2. Salivary glands: These glands are present outside the buccal cavity and put their secretion, salivary amylase into the mouth which is an enzyme helping in the process of starch digestion.
3. Food pipe: The food pipe is also called the esophagus, it is a passage that helps the food reach the stomach.
4. Stomach: The stomach is a muscular, J-shaped organ that stores the food for about 4-5 hours and the food gets digested there partially.
5. Liver: It is said to be the largest gland in the human body and it serves many functions in our body including detoxifying the body, digesting of food, etc.
6. Gall bladder: This gland is present below the liver and helps in the digestion of fat-laden food.
7. Pancreas: This gland is located above the liver and secretes several enzymes for digestion of food and hormones, thus serving dual functions.
8. Small intestine: It is the site where most of the digestion takes place, the digested food gets absorbed by the blood in the small intestine only.
9. Large intestine: The place where the undigested food after absorption goes is the large intestine where water absorption takes place.
10. Anus: The undigested food from the body gets eliminated through an opening called the anus.
