Solution

Neuron:

  1. Neurons are the specialized cells present in our central nervous system including the brain and spinal cord.
  2. Neurons help in the transmission of electrical or chemical signals to and from the brain.
  3. Neurons are also called nerve cells.
  4. These cells transmit the sensory impulses towards the brain or spinal cord and motor impulses from the brain or spinal cord.
  5. Parts of neurons are- dendrites, axons, cell body, etc.

Parts of neurons:

  1. Dendrites: These are branched structures that receive the impulses from other nearby neurons and transmit them further to the cell body.
  2. Cell body: Also called soma, it has various cell organelles such as mitochondria, Golgi body, nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, and other cell organelles.
  3. Axon: Axon is a tube-like structure, that extends up to the axon terminal, that helps in the transmission of impulses from the cell body to the axon terminal and it is further passed on to the next neuron.
  4. Axon terminals: These are the terminals that contain neurotransmitters and help in transmitting impulses.
