  • Neon is a noble gas having a complete octet in its valence shell.
  • Hence, it has exceptional stability and it does not react with other compounds.
  • Although, it cannot give different reactions in order to produce important compounds but it itself can act in a way that it can be used for different purposes.
  • Neon is a colorless gas but when placed in an electric field, it exhibits color.

Uses of neon:

  • Neon gas helps in producing a bright reddish-orange light when put in an electric field. So, it is used in vacuum tubes, television tubes, and some indicators that operate at high voltages.
  • Liquified neon is commercially used as a cryogenic refrigerant which is a substance that is able to generate very low temperatures.
