Solution

Describe an electric cell with the help of labeled diagram - Science - Electricity and Circuits - 9833261 | Meritnation.com

Step 1: Electrical cell

  1. The main power supply of an electrical circuit is the electric cell.
  2. It contains two electrodes at its two terminals.
  3. The cathode is present in the positive terminal and the anode is present in the negative terminal.
  4. It generates electricity by converting chemical energy into electrical energy.
  5. A potential difference is created between the two terminals.
  6. This sets the positive charges to flow from the positive terminal to the negative terminal.
  7. Hence, due to this continuous flow of charge, a current is generated inside the circuit.

Step 2: Polarity of the electric cell

  1. It contains two terminals: positive and negative.
  2. In reality, electrons or negative charges flow from the negative terminal to the position terminal.
  3. But due to general convention, we take the flow of current opposite to the flow of charge in the positive direction.
  4. Hence, the long line in the symbol for a cell represents its positive terminal.
