Solution

Rectilinear Propagation of Light

  1. According to classical theory, light travels in a straight path.
  2. Therefore, for an opaque object, these straight rays of light hit the surface of the opaque object that is exposed to light.
  3. This forbids the light to travel beyond this object which forms a shadow.
  4. Hence, a shadow is nothing but an area that light rays cannot reach.

Formation of Shadow

  1. The formation of the image depends on the size and shape of the opaque object.
  2. In case the position of the bowl is changed, it does not cause any change in the outcome as the shape of the area where falls is the same.
  3. As the same bowl is used in both cases so, the same shadow will be the same in both cases.
  4. Hence, the same shadow will be formed on screens A and B.
