Solution

Reaction of n-Hexane

  1. When n-Hexane is heated with anhydrous AlCl3 and HClgas at 573K under a pressure of about 30-35atm it Isomerises to give a branched chain alkanes.
  2. Reaction Involved: CH3(CH2)4CH3(s)n-HexaneHeatAlCl3,HClCH3CH(CH3)CH2CH2CH3(s)2-MethylPentane+CH3CH2CH(CH3)CH2CH3(s)3-MethylPentane
  3. The Final products are 2-Methyl Pentane and 3-Methyl Pentane.

Therefore, n-Hexane after isomerisation gives the products 2-Methyl Pentane and 3-Methyl Pentane.
