Question

Masculine Gender for Duck

Open in App
Solution

The term drake only refers to males, whereas the term duck can apply to either gender, and the term hen only refers to females. Ducklings, not drakes or hens, are the names given to immature birds of any gender.

A drake might have a quite different appearance than a hen of the same species. Males have more vibrantly coloured plumage, including stronger colour patches, better contrast, more intricate patterns, speciality feathers, and even iridescent patches, in addition to some slight size variations.
