Solution

Liquation process:

  1. It is actually a metallurgical process which is used for the purification of mineral metals.
  2. This process is basically used for the separation of the valuable metals from the ores that are actually the mixture of two or more valuable metals.
  3. This liquation process involves the heating of the ore until the metal having the low melting point which is separated from the one with the higher melting point.
  4. So it is used for treating Tin from smelting, basically it will just remove those impurities that will have high melting temperature than Tin.
  5. The material which is to be treated are basically placed on the sloping hearth in the reverberatory furnace and just heated to a temperature just above the melting point of the tin.
  6. So the tin will melt slowly and will run down the slope so that it can be collected in the vessel and so leaving behind the un melted residue on the hearth.

Therefore, Metal having low melting point such as tin can be purified by Liquation process.
