Solution
Suspended particulate matter:
Suspended particulate matter, or SPM, are fine solids or liquids that are distributed in the air as a result of activities such as combustion processes, industrial operations, or natural sources (like volcanic eruptions.)
The following are two causes of SPM-related air pollution:
Automobiles: Automobiles operate on gasoline and diesel, the combustion of which creates SPM that is suspended in the air.
Industrial activities: Mining, construction, and building demolition all emit SPM into the atmosphere. These activities generate a huge number of dust particles in the air, which are taken up by the wind and suspended in the surrounding air.
