Sheep rearing:

  1. Domesticated sheep are raised for their fleece (wool), for milk, and for meat.
  2. The different processes of making fibre into wool are: Shearing → Scouring → Sorting → Dyeing → Straightening, Rolling and Combing.

The following are some Indian sheep breeds:

Chennai red:

  1. Found in the districts of Villupuram, Chennai, Kancheepuram, and Tiruvannamalai in South India.
  2. They are generally purple in color and are raised for meat.

Lohi

  1. Parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are home to the Lohi.
  2. They are bred to produce high-quality wool.
  3. Brown fleece is the reason for this breed's existence.

Marwari

  1. It has white, not very dense fleece.
  2. It is bred for coarse wool and meat production.

Nali

  1. It's found in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab, among other places.
  2. Its fleece which is coarse, dense and long-stapled, white with brownish tinge, is used as carpet wool.
