Solution

Rhizophora:

  1. Rhizophora is a plant that produces viviparous germination seeds.
  2. The process of giving birth to young seedlings in advanced stages of development is known as plant vivipary.
  3. It can be found in mangroves such as Rhizophora, Sonneratia, and Heritiera. True mangroves are Rhizophora as a group.
  4. Seed dormancy is absent in such plants. While existing inside the seeds that are still present in the fruits linked to the parent plant, the embryo of the seed continues to grow.
  5. The hypocotyl grows in size and pushes the radicle out of the seed and fruit, resulting in a heavy seedling.
  6. This separates from the fruit and falls vertically into the soil, allowing the plumule to remain outside of the saline water. The radicle then forms roots fast, anchoring the seedling in the earth.
