Solution

Step1: Momentum

  1. Momentum is a quantity of motion and is the product of the quantity of the matter moved and the velocity with which it moves.
  2. Momentum is present when you walk, run, etc. If a cycle and a car travel down the street at an equal velocity, the car will have more momentum.
  3. Mathematically, Momentum p= mass m X velocityv.
  4. Thus, the unit of momentum kgms-1

Step2: Impulse

  1. Impulse is the amount of force you apply for a certain amount of time to cause a change in momentum.
  2. Or in other words, Impulse is often stated to be the product of the average net force that acts on an object for a certain duration.
  3. Mathematically, Change in momentum p= Applied Force Fkgms-2 × Elapsed time ts.
  4. Thus, the unit of Impulse is kgms-1 too.

Thus, Impulse has the same unit as momentum i.e. kgms-1.
