Solution

Iron:

  1. The second most prevalent metal in the earth's crust is iron. Deep within the earth's crust, it can be discovered molten.
  2. Around 5% of iron is present in the Earth's crust, the maximum is Aluminum around 8%
  3. It makes up a large portion of the Earth's outer and inner cores.
  4. Pure iron is a silvery metal with excellent heat and electricity conductivity. Because iron is too reactive to exist on its own, it can only be found as iron ores in the Earth's crust, such as hematite, magnetite, and siderite.
  5. It is mostly utilized to create steel, a carbon-iron alloy, that accounts for 90% all metals present today.
  6. It is extracted by modern techniques which use blast furnaces.
  7. It is utilized in the construction of bridges, electricity pylons, bicycle chains, cutting tools, etc. In the Haber process, iron catalysts are employed to produce ammonia.

Therefore, Iron is the second most abundant metal in the earth's crust.
