Ionic compounds:

  1. Ionic compounds are formed when atoms make ionic connections with one another. Salts, oxides, hydroxides, sulfides, and the majority of inorganic compounds are some ionic compounds.
  2. The electrostatic interaction between the positive and negative ions holds ionic solids together.
  3. In a polar solvent, the majority of ionic compounds are soluble. The reason for this is that the polar solvents reduce the electrostatic force of attraction between the ions in the molecule, making it easier for them to dissociate.
  4. As a result, the ionic molecules in the solution become free ions. They have high lattice energy, which permits them to dissolve the substance quickly despite the strong attraction.
  5. Ionic chemicals dissolve easily in water, which is a polar solvent. Because the oxygen and hydrogen atoms in water are arranged in a bent shape, water is a polar solvent.
  6. It has a positive charge on one side due to the hydrogen atom and a negative charge on the other due to the oxygen atom.
  7. Because electrons are shared amongst the atoms, they are connected through covalent bonding.
  8. Because water has such a small size, it dissolves ionic substances by surrounding one molecule of solute with numerous water molecules.
  9. The ionic substance is easily dissolved in the solvent due to its polarity.

Therefore, water is the solvent in which ionic compounds are generally soluble.
