Solution

Industrial preparation of Hydrogen peroxideH2O2:

  • Hydrogen peroxide is the simplest kind of peroxide available.
  • Hydrogen peroxide is a colorless liquid and acts as a bleaching agent and a disinfectant.
  • On an industrial scale, Hydrogen peroxide can be prepared by the auto-oxidation of 2-Ethyl anthraquinol.
  • 2-Ethyl anthraquinol undergoes auto-oxidation to produce Hydrogen peroxide and 2-Ethyl anthraquinone.
  • The Hydrogen peroxide formed is extracted with water and the aqueous solution is concentrated by distillation under reduced pressure to give H2O2 the solution.
  • This method is very cheap because the reactant 2-Ethyl anthraquinol can be used again and again

Therefore, On an industrial scale, H2O2 is prepared by oxidation of 2-Ethylanthraquinol.
