Moriculture:

  1. It is the process of cultivating mulberry plants to get feed for silkworms.
  2. The optimum temperature for the mulberry plant's growth is 24 degrees Celsius.
  3. These plants though possess the tendency to thrive in the temperature range of 18 to 38 degrees Celsius.
  4. The branch cutting technique is used for harvesting mulberry leaves.

Sericulture:

  1. It is the process of cultivating silkworms and getting silk from them.
  2. The caterpillars of the domestic silkworm also known as Bombyx mori is the most commonly used silkworm species.
  3. About 300 to 500 eggs are obtained from one female silk moth.
  4. These eggs are then disinfected with the help of a two percent formalin solution.

The two terms associated with silk production are moriculture and sericulture.
