Solution

Corrosion:

  • Corrosion is basically known as the Slow eating of metal due to the attack of air, water, moisture, and chemicals present in the environment.
  • In other words, the deterioration of metals through oxidation which is a galvanic process can also be called corrosion.
  • By applying the protective coatings, which mainly consist of a second metal that is more difficult to oxidize than the metal, we can prevent the process of corrosion.

Painting of the Iron surface:

  • When Iron metal reacts with the environmental water, air, or Oxygen it forms a reddish-brown Iron oxide layer on the metal surface and the process is called rusting of Iron which makes the metal surface poisonous and looks dull.
  • The formation of rust requires iron, water, and oxygen, and is known as a complex process, for which the chemical equation can be given as : 4Fe(s)Iron+3O2(g)Oxygen+6H2O(l)WaterFe2O3(s)Ferrousoxide
  • Hence, to prevent the rusting of Iron we mostly apply paint on the iron surface, thus the surface of Iron won't come in direct contact with the environment, and no rust will be formed by the reaction with Oxygen to form Iron oxide.

Hence, Painting the Iron surface is a type of corrosion prevention method.
