Solution

Polymerization:

  • Polymerization is the process in which smaller molecules called monomers chemically combine to form larger molecules with higher molecular weights.
  • The polymerization reaction occurs in the presence of a peroxide such as Benzoyl peroxide.

Polymerization of R2Si(OH)2:

  • When R2SiCl2is reacted with water, R2Si(OH)2is formed.
  • R2Si(OH)2undergoes condensation polymerization that forms a large number of straight-chain or linear polymers by the removal of water, which are also called as Silicone.

Thus, R2Si(OH)2 on polymerization gives: straight-chain or linear polymers called as Silicone.
