The refractive index of glass with respect to air is Rgais 32.

To find the refractive index of water with respect to air Rwa.

Step 2: To find the refractive index of water with respect to air Rwa.

The refractive index of glass with respect to water is

Rgw=RgRw

and

98=RgRw

again the refractive index of glass with respect to air is

Rga=RgRa

and

32=RgRa

So the refractive index of water with respect to air is

Rwa=RgaRgw=RgRaRgRw=RwRa

Rwa=3298=43

Hence, the refractive index of water with respect to air is43.
