Solution

Soil profile:

  1. Vertical cutting of different layers of soil is called a soil profile.
  2. Each layer has a different feel, color, depth, and chemical composition. These layers are referred to as horizons.
  3. As a result of its abundance of humus and minerals, the topmost horizon (A horizon) is often dark in appearance.
  4. A horizon is porous and soft, and it may hold more water.
  5. It provides shelter to several organisms such as rodents, beetles, etc.
  6. B horizon or the middle layer is the next layer after A horizon.
  7. B horizon has less humus but more minerals, more complex and compact.
  8. The third layer is the C horizon.
  9. C horizon comprises small lumps of rocks with cracks and cerevisiae.
  10. Below the C horizon, Bedrock is present that is hard and difficult to dig with a spade.
