Open in App
Solution

Solving the equations 2x+3y=13 and 5x-4y=-2

The given equations are as follows

2x+3y=13...(1)

5x-4y=-2...(2)

Substitute1x=a and 1y=b, we get the following pair of linear equations:

2a+3b=13.........(3)5a4b=-2..........(4)

Step 1: Making same coefficient of b in equation 3 and 4

Coefficients of b are 3and 4 and their LCM is 12.

Using the elimination method .

Equation (3)×4

8a+12b=52.............(5)

Equation (4)×3

15a12b=-6............(6)

Step 2: Finding the value of a

Add equations 5 and 6, we get

23a=46a=2

Step 3: Finding the value of b

Substitute the value of a in equation (3), we get

2×2+3b=134+3b=133b=1343b=9b=93b=3

Step 4: Finding the value of x and y

We know that

1x=a=2

So, x=12

Similarly, 1y=b=3

So, y=13

Hence , x=12 and y=13 is the correct answer.
