Question

Solve the following pairs of linear equations:

x3+y4=45x6-y8=4

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Simplify both the equations into standard form and then write one variable in terms of other.

On simplifying the equation x3+y4=4, we get

x3+y4=44x+3y12=44x+3y=48.........(1)

and on simplifying the equation 5x6-y8=4, we get

5x6-y8=420x-3y24=420x-3y=96.........(2)

Taking equation (1), we have:

4x+3y=483y=48-4xy=48-4x3.......(3)

Step 2: Find the value of x

On substituting the value of y in equation (2), we have

20x-3(48-4x3)=9620x-48+4x=9624x=96+4824x=144x=14424x=6

Step 3: Find the value of y

Now, substituting the value of x in equation (3), we have

y=48-4(6)3y=48-243y=243y=8

Hence, x=6 and y=8 is the solution of given equation.
